Guyana 3×3 Basketball places 9th at the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games

(Konya, Turkey – 16 August 2022) – The Guyana 3×3 Basketball Men’s National Team exited the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, placing them in 9th place.
Team Guyana split games 3 and 4 with a loss to Iran and a victory over Maldives to complete group play.
In game 3, Guyana lost to a more seasoned Iranian 3×3 basketball team 21-12. Harold Adams lead all scores with 7 points, while Nikkoloi Smith and Stanton Rose Jr. contributed 3 points and 2 points respectively. In game 4, Guyana had an easy victory over the winless Maldives 22-12. Team captain Stanton Rose Jr. lead all scores with 7 points, while Harold Adams, Travis Belgrave, and Nikkoloi Smith contributed 5 points each. Guyana exited the competitions in 9th place after finishing 3rd in group play with two (2) wins and two (2) losses and scoring a total of 67 points, averaging 16.8 points per game. Team Guyana showed resiliency in this shortened version of basketball against seasoned teams from the African and Asian continents. Guyana is one of two western countries competing in 3×3 basketball at these games.

The GABF 3×3 Coordinator, Junior Hercules said, “although we did not achieve our intended goal set before we arrived in Turkey, I’m still very proud of our effort, fight, and pride we played with for our country.”

The Guyana Basketball Federation would like to thank the Guyana Olympic Association for the opportunity to compete in our first Islamic Solidarity Games, which allowed our players to demonstrate their skills on the world stage.
