Guyana (Olympic Solidarity Technical course for coaches) – The Guyanese Amateur Basketball Federation hosted the coaches’ technical course at the National Sports Centre in Georgetown, the premiere venue for indoor sports activities, between 22nd and 31st May 2011.
American coaching expert Tom Newell taught the beginner-level course with 50 coaches in attendance.
The 10-day course combined theoretical sessions with on-court practical sessions and was complemented by informational sessions from professionals in the field.
The course content covered basic fundamentals such as ball handling, passing, correct shot mechanics, offensive rebounding drills and many other topics.
Junior and senior players (men and women) were used to demonstrate and highlight the theories taught during the course.
