{"id":5648,"date":"2026-05-11T09:27:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T13:27:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/guyanabasketball.com\/gy\/?p=5648"},"modified":"2026-05-11T11:43:38","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T15:43:38","slug":"gbf-independence-3x3-championship-set-to-ignite-diamond-jubilee-celebrations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/guyanabasketball.com\/gy\/2026\/05\/11\/gbf-independence-3x3-championship-set-to-ignite-diamond-jubilee-celebrations\/","title":{"rendered":"GBF Independence 3\u00d73 Championship set to ignite Diamond Jubilee celebrations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Guyana continues its month-long celebration leading up to the nation\u2019s Diamond Jubilee Independence anniversary, the Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and\u00a0<span class=\"google-anno-t\">Sport<\/span>, will stage the highly anticipated Independence 3\u00d73 Championship on May 17 at the Cliff Anderson\u00a0\u00a0<span class=\"google-anno-t\">Sports<\/span>\u00a0Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The one-day tournament will feature 10 of the country\u2019s top teams battling for supremacy and a lucrative winner\u2019s purse of $300,000, in what is expected to be one of the marquee <span class=\"google-anno-t\">sporting<\/span>\u00a0events on the Ministry\u2019s Independence calendar.<\/p>\n<p>The championship forms part of a wider series of sporting activities being hosted throughout May as Guyana celebrates 60 years as an independent nation.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has thrown its full support behind the tournament, covering all prize monies for the event.<\/p>\n<p>The second-place team will receive $200,000, while the third-place finisher will pocket $100,000. Additionally, the tournament\u2019s Most Valuable Player (MVP) will earn a cash prize of $25,000.<\/p>\n<p>The competition will showcase talent from across the country, with four Linden-based clubs, <strong>Amelia\u2019s Ward Jets, Retrieve Raiders, Victory Valley Royals,<\/strong> and <strong>Block 22 Flames<\/strong> set to compete against Georgetown sides <strong>Ravens, Colts, Pacesetters,<\/strong> and <strong>Eagles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the tournament format, the 10 teams will be divided into two groups, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the semi-finals.
