The Virgin Islands secured a commanding 78-54 victory over tournament hosts Guyana on Day Two of the FIBA Caribbean Women\u2019s Basketball Championship at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The win came despite an intense effort from Guyana\u2019s Joy Adams-Brown, who posted an impressive double-double in the loss.<\/p>\n

The Virgin Islands found their rhythm through defensive intensity, capitalizing on 29 turnovers from the Guyanese hosts to score 36 points off miscues.<\/p>\n

Centre Anisha George was the driving force for the Virgin Islands, converting 10 of her 12 attempts from two-point range to lead all scorers with 23 points.<\/p>\n

She also contributed four rebounds and two blocks in a commanding performance under the basket. Taylor Jones added 18 points and five boards for the winners.<\/p>\n

For Guyana, the defeat was a sharp contrast to their dominant start, where they thumped the Bahamas 102-75 on the opening night.<\/p>\n

Against the Virgin Islands, Joy Adams-Brown delivered a powerful performance in a losing effort, logging a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Ruth Adams also contributed 16 points and five rebounds.<\/p>\n

Guyana Head Coach Kenny Avent acknowledged the need for improvement, particularly regarding ball security.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t handle the ball well and were not efficient in turnovers,\u201d Avent said. He stressed that improving efficiency will be critical ahead of their next match against Suriname on Saturday.<\/p>\n

In the earlier match on Day two, The Bahamas (1\u20131) secured their first win, defeating Suriname 77\u201345, fueled by an explosive individual display.<\/p>\n

Bahamian forward Lashann Higgs put on a shooting clinic, knocking down seven three-pointers on her way to a game-high 35 points in just 16 minutes of play.<\/p>\n

She added seven rebounds and seven assists. Her teammate Valerie Nesbitt contributed a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists.<\/p>\n

Suriname (0\u20132) saw a solid individual effort from Beyonce Jedinie, who posted 15 points and 11 rebounds.<\/p>\n

The tournament runs through Sunday, with the top three teams earning berths to the FIBA Women\u2019s Centrobasket Championship 2026.<\/p>\n
