The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) has been recognised for its \u201cexceptional leadership and development work\u201d after receiving the prestigious Award of Excellence from the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC).<\/p>\n
The honour was presented to GBF Vice Presidents Rawle Toney, Jermaine Slater, and General Secretary Patrick Haynes during the CBC Assembly held in Mexico City, Mexico.<\/p>\n
CBC President, Leslie Collymore, was effusive in his praise, declaring Guyana a \u201cmodel Federation within the CBC\u201d for its consistent and high-impact commitment to the sport at both grassroots and elite levels.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Collymore highlighted that the GBF\u2019s efforts have directly benefited the wider Caribbean region, not just the local game.<\/p>\n
Key to the recognition was Guyana\u2019s ability to host landmark regional events.<\/p>\n
The nation was singled out as the first English-speaking Caribbean country to stage a FIBA 3\u00d73 Quest event, showcasing its administrative capacity and forward-thinking approach to the fast-growing format.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Collymore noted the upcoming hosting of the FIBA Women\u2019s Caribbean Championship, marking the tournament\u2019s return to the region after several years\u2014proof, he stated, that the GBF can \u201cdeliver at the highest level\u201d when the region needs it most.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The GBF expressed deep gratitude for the international recognition, emphasising that the award belongs to everyone involved in the local basketball development.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are happy that the work done in Guyana is being recognized both regionally and internationally,\u201d the Federation stated, adding that their growth initiatives had a positive knock-on effect throughout the CBC.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
