The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) is proud to announce that Guyana has been awarded the hosting rights for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Women\u2019s Championship, set to take place from November 9 \u2013 17 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown.<\/p>\n

The return of the CBC Championship marks a historic moment for regional basketball, as the tournament will be staged for the first time since 2018, when Suriname last played host.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s championship is expected to feature ten of the Caribbean\u2019s top basketball nations, all vying for coveted spots at the Women\u2019s CentroBasket Tournament, a key qualifier for the prestigious FIBA Women\u2019s AmeriCup.<\/p>\n

President of the GBF, Michael Singh, said the announcement reflects both Guyana\u2019s readiness and the confidence entrusted by FIBA in the federation\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuyana stands ready to host the championship, especially given that it will be the return of this marquee tournament after seven years,\u201d Singh noted.<\/p>\n

The GBF president thanked FIBA for showing confidence in his federation and accepting Guyana\u2019s bid, adding, \u201cIt shows that they\u2019re paying attention to the work we\u2019ve been doing over the past couple of years, and more importantly, Guyana\u2019s ability as a country to host international sporting events.\u201d<\/p>\n

Singh added that the GBF will immediately shift into operational mode, working in collaboration with the Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, and the National Sports Commission (NSC) to ensure the successful staging of the championship.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Special attention will be placed on the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, which will undergo necessary preparations to meet international standards.<\/p>\n

A Local Organising Committee (LOC), Singh said, will soon be established to spearhead the execution of the tournament.<\/p>\n

The CBC Women\u2019s Championship holds special significance for Guyana, as the country has etched its name in the region\u2019s basketball history books.<\/p>\n

In 1996, the Guyanese women\u2019s national team captured the nation\u2019s first Caribbean title at the then CARICOM Basketball Championship in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.<\/p>\n
