{"id":5223,"date":"2025-05-03T09:13:56","date_gmt":"2025-05-03T13:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/guyanabasketball.com\/gy\/?p=5223"},"modified":"2025-05-03T09:26:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-03T13:26:09","slug":"ruth-adams-team-up-with-the-gbf-to-revitalise-female-basketball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/guyanabasketball.com\/gy\/2025\/05\/03\/ruth-adams-team-up-with-the-gbf-to-revitalise-female-basketball\/","title":{"rendered":"Ruth Adams team up with the GBF to revitalise female basketball"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) has joined forces with overseas-based national player Ruth Adams to host a full day of women\u2019s basketball activities on May 3 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall to revitalize the female side of the sport in Guyana.<\/p>\n<p>Adams, who hails from Plaisance and migrated to the United States at eight, has built a remarkable career playing professional basketball in the USA and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Now, she returns home with a mission to give back and inspire the next generation of female players.<\/p>\n<p>The day\u2019s activities will bounce off at 11:00h with a basketball clinic for girls of various age groups, led by Adams herself.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic is part of her \u201cWhat About the Girls\u201d campaign- a personal initiative aimed at empowering and encouraging young women to pursue basketball with passion and purpose.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe goal is to re-energise female participation in the game,\u201d Adams said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no shortage of talent here in Guyana, but girls need opportunities, support, and a system that believes in them. While the sport has grown, there\u2019s still a lot of work to be done on the women\u2019s side.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Following the clinic, fans can look forward to a competitive women\u2019s match-up between the University of Guyana Trojans and the Panthers, set to tip off at 15:00h.<\/p>\n<p>The game will showcase some of the country\u2019s top female talent.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>GBF President Michael Singh praised Adams\u2019 efforts and stressed the importance of her involvement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s critical for our young girls to see someone like Ruth, a daughter of the soil, who has lived the dream of playing professional basketball.
