ABOUT THE GBF
The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) was founded in 1961. Our primary objective is to promote, supervise and govern the playing of basketball in Guyana as stipulated by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). In addition, to its local obligations, the GBF has the responsibility of preparing and selecting the male and female national teams, that compete in FIBA sponsored international basketball competitions including the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the Olympic Basketball Tournament, and 3×3 basketball, as well as for some national competitions, and for the development of youth basketball initiatives that address player development, coach education and licensing, and safety.
The GBF Operations & Development division is tasked with the development of youth basketball initiatives that address player development, coach education, and safety while promoting, growing, and elevating the game. Current GBF youth initiatives include coach licensing and education; coach academies; regional camps; open court programs; Women in the Game conferences; and National Club Championships for Men and Women.
The GBF is an official member of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The GBF is assigned to the Americas zone of FIBA and in turn, is assigned to the Americas Sub-Zone of Central America and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA) and to the Sub-Sub-Zone of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC).
The GBF Operations & Development division is tasked with the development of youth basketball initiatives that address player development, coach education, and safety while promoting, growing, and elevating the game. Current GBF youth initiatives include coach licensing and education; coach academies; regional camps; open court programs; Women in the Game conferences; and National Club Championships for Men and Women.
The GBF is an official member of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The GBF is assigned to the Americas zone of FIBA and in turn, is assigned to the Americas Sub-Zone of Central America and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA) and to the Sub-Sub-Zone of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC).

As the national governing body for basketball in Guyana, recognized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and the National Sports Commission (NSC), the Guyana Basketball Federation is responsible for the selection and training of Guyana national teams that complete in FIBA sponsored international basketball competitions and domestic events, as well as promoting, growing and elevating the game while ensuring that all participants compete and develop in a safe and inclusive environment.
A ten-member Executive Board governs Guyana Basketball. MICHAEL SINGH was re-elected as President of the Guyana Basketball Federation for the 2023-2027 quadrennium. Also, members of the Executive Board are PATRICK HAYNES – Secretary General, JERMAINE SLATER – Vice President of Operations and Development, RAWLE TONEY – Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations, SONIA RODNEY – Vice President of Discipline and Compliance, QUINCY BAIRD – Treasurer, and SILEENA ARJUNE – Technical Director. At-Large Members are LEONA KYTE, DENNIS CLARKE, and DEON FERRIER.
