The Ravens Basketball Club will embark on a historic first for Guyana Basketball as it seeks to make a name for itself in the Kreyol Basketball Championships in Dominica.
The Kreyol Basketball Championship is organised by the Caribbean Sports and Sustainable Development and In Nature Tours. The aim is to bring together the best clubs in the Caribbean to determine the kings of the Caribbean.
The tournament is organised into three different conferences, and the winner of each conference will feature in the ‘Champs of the Champs’ tournament in August in Guadeloupe.
The Ravens Basketball Club, along with the runner-up of the inaugural One Guyana League, Eagles Basketball Club, will feature in the Northern Conference of the Championships along with teams from Guadeloupe, and Dominica.
Captain Dominic Vincente, in an invited comment on the expectations for the team, stated that they aim to continue their winning ways and execute with the same intensity.
He added that even though they will be in unfamiliar territory, they just need to trust the team’s system, and the rest will take care of itself.
Coach Marlon Rodrigues opined that all he can ask is for his team to give their all on the court and maintain discipline on and off it, as they are ambassadors of the country.
The first test for the ‘Orange Men’ is on June 6 from 21:00h against the D-Tread Blazers, the defending champions of the Dominica Amateur Basketball Association.
They are expected to be a tough match-up, but confidence amongst the team is high, the club indicated.
