Over the weekend when Youth Basketball Guyana staged their Five Challenge Series and free-throw competition, Queens College, St Stanislaus College, and GTI were some of the top teams in their respective categories.
In the girl’s finals, Marian Academy went down to Saints with Oneisha Trotman leading the way in the points in a game that saw two halves of five minutes.
Alyann Adolphus was awarded the MVP for the competition.

Over in the under 14 category Queens College A showed their class to defeat St. Rose’s 11-4 . Dmitri Singh led QC with 7 points and 3 Rebounds with support from Joshua Adremi. Liam Bart was rewarded with his MVP award after QC won it.

The Under 16’s saw New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary pipping Mackenzie High to take the crown 7-4. New Amsterdam’s Tyrese Archer played well on the offensive and defensive end to lead his side to the win. The U16 MVP was Samuel Welcome

The 18 and under saw Government Technical Institute (GTI) overcoming St. Rose’s 23-10. GTI’s Alwyn Adams hit 7 points, 3 Rebound, and 3 Steals in the outing to cop the win for his team and the MVP award in the 10-minute contest. Shaquon Ross also added his name to the score sheet with 7 points. St. Rose’s High got 7 points from Nathan Williams in a losing cause.

Rising Star B also tipped Saints 14-12 with Peter Langevine leading the way with 6 points and 3 Rebounds which went a far way in gaining him the MVP title for the category. Calix Bernard and Chris Perez supported with 4 points each.

Brandon McKoy scored all of the Saints’ points but to no avail as they went down by 2 points 14-12.
Deshawn Gurrick claimed the Free throw champion for the ladies with Brad Cush claiming the win in the men’s free throw category.
