The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) has confirmed that several overseas-based Guyanese players, including standout forward Delroy James, will compete in the National 3×3 Championship, set for September 27–28 at the Seawall Bandstand.

The tournament will see 16 teams battle for national bragging rights, with winners pocketing $500,000. Second, third, and fourth place will receive $200,000, $100,000, and $50,000, respectively.

This year’s event will play a crucial role in selecting the team to represent Guyana at the FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup, scheduled for November 27–30 in León, Mexico, one of the most prestigious competitions in the Americas for the fast-paced half-court format.

For the first time in Guyana, the championship will be played on a FIBA-certified surface and tiles, similar to those used in international tournaments.

“The surface is important, and we’re proud to have it here for the first time,” said GBF President Michael Singh. “It’s the same standard used at the AmeriCup, and it shows our commitment to raising the level of 3×3 basketball in Guyana.”

James, who first competed in the 3×3 format at the 2022 AmeriCup, will make his National 3×3 debut for the Predators, alongside fellow AmeriCup teammate Shelroy Thomas, BVI-based guard Ray Victor, and 18-year-old big man Jaden Simon.

Other overseas-based players expected to feature include Berchell Glenn, Deylon Bovell, and Akeem Ellis, who will line up for Georgetown.

“This is important for us at the GBF to see our top players in action at home, so we can select the best team for Mexico,” Singh explained.

Guyana has been one of the Caribbean’s most consistent AmeriCup participants, missing only the 2023 edition in Puerto Rico due to unforeseen circumstances.

Singh noted the Federation’s appreciation for government and corporate support, which has ensured successful participation in past tournaments.

Looking ahead, Singh revealed that the GBF intends to expose the selected national squad to multiple international 3×3 circuit stops, ensuring the team is battle-ready for the AmeriCup.

Last year, Renegades, featuring Jude Corlette, Travis Belgrave, Nikkoloi Smith, and Dominic Vincente, claimed the national title with a 21–15 win over Linden at the National Gymnasium. Belgrave, Vincente, Adams, and Smith later represented Guyana at the AmeriCup in Puerto Rico, gaining valuable international experience.
