The Guyana Basketball Federation (GABF) was founded in 1961. Its primary objective is to promote, supervise and govern the playing of basketball in Guyana as stipulated by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). In addition, to its local obligations, the GABF has the responsibility of preparing and selecting the male and female national teams, that compete in FIBA sponsored international basketball competitions including the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the Olympic Basketball Tournament, and 3×3 basketball, as well as for some national competitions.
The GABF Operations and Development division is tasked with the development of youth basketball initiatives that address player development, coach education, and safety – while promoting, growing, and elevating the game. Current GABF youth initiatives include coach licensing and education; coach academies; regional camps; youth clinics; open court programs; Women in the Game conferences; and the Road to Mecca National Club Championship.
